Stand with Tibet - Support the Dalai Lama
Related to country: Tibet

Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

Hurry up!!!

After decades of repression, Tibetans are crying out to the world for change. China's leaders are right now making a crucial choice between escalating repression or dialogue that could determine the future of Tibet, and China.

We can affect this historic choice -- China does care about its international reputation. But it will take an avalanche of global people power to get the government's attention. The Dalai Lama has called for restraint and dialogue: he needs the world's people to support him. Sign the petition below--it will be delivered Monday, March 31st to Chinese embassies and consulates worldwide!

Stand with Tibet - Support the Dalai Lama

Be a soultion! Sign the petition to support Tibet. Everybody can do something, give it 2 minutes of your time and show your responsibility. Thanks.

Solution of the week:

Solution of the week:

Today we met Lincoln. He and his wife Lee Sue have invented an A/C free building. The whole building is founded on a layer of old tires which are conducting the heat out of the house into the ground. This cools the building up to 12°C compared to a standard construction.
With a room temperature of about 25°C an A/C installation is not necessary anymore.

Old tires as a foundation sound not very stable, but as I can proof, the house is wonderful and in good conditions. There are 7,000 new houses planed for next year.

The initial costs for such a “tire-building” are lower than for a conventional building; and of course the running energy expenses are massively lower.

More advantages:

The use of such a tire-Insulation is even greater in countries with cold winters. The tires will provide the buildings in the winter with warmness from the ground and in the summer they cool.

Using old tires is a great recycling opportunity, using no energy.

Asia-Tour starts with a detour
Related to country: Malaysia

Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

Friday 28 March 08, Malaysia

The first Asia-Tour-Day started with a detour. Taking the wrong lane in Singapore can end in a “2-hour-stop-and-go-getting-a-one-way-streets-headache”. Anyway we somehow arrived in Malacca, Malaysia.
After 200 km on the highway surrounded by monoculture palm oil plantations, I’m not surprised to find out, that Malaysia is the biggest palm oil producer in the world. A professor from the UTM University tells me, that 30% of the ancient Malaysian rainforest are protected. We have already seen massive fire clearing. This abuse of the nature shows; that the use of bio fuels are very rarely a sustainable solution for our future mobility.

After nearly four month of enjoying the modern comforts of bathrooms, I come back to the reality of holes in the ground and a water pipe substitution for toilet paper. I love to sit on the toilet, reading a magazine or just day-dreaming. This will be probably luxury in the next months.
Missing several things after nine month of travelling; has shown me what is important to me and my life. So I really enjoy this feeling of missing, I realize what my real requirements for life are.

WOW after travelling three month through Australia and New Zealand with a nearly ignorant attitude towards the Solartaxi by its inhabitants, we are back in the wonderland of the Solartaxi: After a high speed police escorting with blue lights flashing and siren; 300 pupils, a group of traditional drummers and the regional politicians are welcoming us. I have goose bumps. It is great motivation for us.

Stabbed on the table next to me

Thursday 27 March 08, Singapore

Rushing around the whole day. Xinying, a couch surfer and tabloid reporter shows me the weird parts of Singapore. I’m the only westerner, or what ever I should be called at these places. I enjoy it, it’s like discovering a little treasure; some place only for me without any tourists.
When ever a murder or a fatal car accident happens, Xinying is there and makes a story. We are having an herbal tea next to the table where two weeks ago a guy was stabbed. Xinying tells me a lot stories like that.
Singapore is great and I would love to have some more time to discover, but the Solartaxi adventure starts tomorrow and the weeks of relaxing and sleeping are over.

Singapore in love

Wednesday, 25 March 2008, Singapore

I arrived in the middle of the night at the budget terminal. A sign: “Budget Terminal enjoy the difference” worried me a little bit. No A/C, no moving walkway for a convenient transportation through the terminal, and also no escalator. Did Singapore airport authorities discovered, that walking and fresh air is not hazardous for humankind. I was exited.
The taxi driver mumbled something like 20 Dollars; his English was very difficult to understand.
While the drive through the night, I felt like being back in town. It is my first time in Singapore but the style of post socialism buildings made from precast concrete slabs, made me feeling at home, back in Berlin.

Thursday, 26 March 08, Singapore

Two days of wandering through Singapore, but I have not arrived yet. I’m still in Australia, at least my heart which got lost in Perth with this wonderful woman. Eight month of travelling without much romance, mostly alone with my mind and the need of love, it felt like spring; summer; Christmas; birthday; fresh strawberries with milk and sugar, reincarnation and dried tomatoes together. I fell in love. Wow. Wonderful; beautiful; tremendous; terrific, what an intense feeling. Three weeks of an amazing short-term-love-story inspired me and I hope this feeling of floating will accompany me for a long time.
